RoHS Directive
The Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment (RoHS) Directive came into force in the European Union on 1 July 2006. The State of California, U.S.A., has already adopted similar regulations, and other states in the U.S. either have adopted or are considering implementation of similar regulations at some point in the future. The Marking and Disclosure Requirements of the six hazardous substances for China RoHS became effective 1 March 2007.
The RoHS Directive applies to certain environmentally hazardous substances and is aimed at reducing waste management issues associated with specified heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, hexavalent chromium and mercury as well as two polybrominated flame retardants. The directive allows for a maximum concentration of each of these ingredients in any cabling component.
